The most famous gangster of all time, known as Scarface, dominated Chicago’s underworld for years through bribery and murder. His living descendants claim that Capone had two faces: one for the family and another for the media, which means that his figure still remains an enigma.
The son of Italian immigrants, Al Capone was born in New York in 1899, and at the age of fourteen he began his criminal career in organized crime at the hands of the powerful gangster Johnny Torrio. Released at the end of ’39, and after spending a few years in the prison hospital, Capone ended up ruined and financially dependent on his brothers. He died at age 48 on his property in Miami Beach, Florida.
On October 17, 1931, Al Capone was convicted on five of 23 counts and sentenced to 11 years in federal prison.
