Chennai: Due to heavy rains in Vidya Vidya, flood waters have again accumulated on the roads in Thiyagaraya town, west of Chennai. Thiyagarayar Nagar Madley Tunnel and Rangarajapuram Tunnel have been closed due to heavy rains.

Residents of Chennai have been reeling under the floods for the past few weeks. It has been raining heavily since the 7th. The rain that started last night in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram and Chengalpattu districts continued till this morning. A maximum of 20 cm of rain was reported in Avadi. Mamallapuram received 18 cm of rainfall.

Coimbatore, Central, Nungambakkam, Kodambakkam, Porur, Mylapore and suburbs will receive occasional showers. Thus, the low places on the roads became like a pond surrounded by water.

KK Nagar in Chennai, Ashok Nagar, The. Many parts of the city, such as West Mambalam, are flooded. Not only roads but also flats have been flooded. Residents of the houses are unable to leave their homes even to go and buy basic necessities.

The Thiyagarayar Nagar Madley Tunnel and Rangarajapuram Tunnel have been closed due to heavy rains in Chennai. Traffic ban continues on KK Nagar Rajamannar Road due to water logging. Traffic has been banned on the Valasaravakkam Mega Mart Road due to water logging. Traffic has been diverted at various places in Chennai due to heavy rains and floods.

The suburbs of Chennai including Tambaram, Pallavaram, Meenambakkam, Ambattur and Poonamallee will receive moderate rainfall. Excess water coming out of the lake at Narayanapuram next to Pallikaranai has caused knee-deep water in areas including Kolathur and Vellakkal. Thus the people who can live there are suffering from not being able to leave their homes.

Rainfall is forecast to continue in Tamil Nadu as the atmospheric circulation will continue till the 30th. The coastal districts of Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, Tirunelveli, Tuticorin, Tenkasi and Delta will receive heavy showers and thundershowers at a few places today. So a Red Alert has been issued for those districts. Holidays have been declared for school colleges due to heavy rains in 23 districts.
