Honam’s Geumgangsan. Going to Wolchulsan

Wolchulsan is called the ‘Salt River of Honam’ because its beautiful mountain scenery resembles Geumgangsan. It is not very high at about 810m above sea level, but it is famous for being a mountain that is not easy to climb due to its many rugged rocks. However, with the opening of the ‘First Buddha Road under the Sky’ course in 2023, it has become a mountain that anyone can climb. After being prohibited from entering for 30 years as a water source protection area, it was lifted, and now only this course allows you to climb to Gujeongbong with a cool valley next to you. We will climb the ‘First Buddha Road under the Sky’ with Park Geun-yong, an employee of Wolchulsan National Park, and hear about hidden attractions and old stories. If you walk along the northern slope of Wolchulsan, you will come across Gichanmotgil. A yellow dirt road that is good for walking barefoot in the summer has been created, making it very popular among locals as a health spot. The most popular place for families visiting Wolchulsan, which is full of things to see and enjoy, is the water park that is temporarily open between July and August. The water park boasts always clean and cool water quality, using stream water and underground rock water flowing from Wolchulsan Mountain.

Fermented vinegar made by Wolchulsan Mountain!

Kim Myeong-seong, who lives at the foot of Wolchulsan Mountain, is busy collecting vinegar ingredients in the summer. When natural ingredients and secret recipes are put into an earthenware pot, the rest is left to nature. The fermented vinegar, which has endured a year, has a deep flavor and excellent aroma!
