Hanbin (12 years old) runs home straight from school. These days, Hanbin’s joy is playing with his youngest child, Minyul, who is 6 months old. Minyul, the youngest, and his older brothers, who have different last names and appearances. Hanbin’s house, where social workers stay together, is a communal living home that protects children who need social protection due to family breakdown, abuse, poverty, etc. It is a youth group home. Hanbin came to live here in March of last year due to his grandmother’s deteriorating health… At first, everything was unfamiliar to Hanbin, so he walked around like a robot. Thanks to the kind social worker and older brothers, I was able to adapt well and have now become an atmosphere maker at the group home. However, there are people that even Hanbin cannot approach easily. His older brother, Wonbin (16 years old), had been living in a group home since he first entered the group six years ago. Two brothers began living together again after four years apart. The brothers are building a new friendship.

Wonbin entered the group home in 2019. After the mother left the family, the five of them, including the father, paternal grandmother, younger sister, and the youngest Hanbin, lived together, but they suffered a lot because of the father’s dependence on alcohol. Afterwards, they were separated and the three siblings were separated… Wonbin was sent to a men’s group home, his younger sister was sent to a women’s group home, and the youngest, Hanbin, who was in the first grade of elementary school at the time, was raised by his grandmother. Wonbin is said to have become Hanbin’s guardian since Hanbin entered the group home. However, perhaps because they have been apart for a long time, the gap between brothers is not easily narrowed. They say it’s because of his younger brother, Hanbin, who says it’s okay if his older brother, Wonbin, teaches him how to study or if he asks him to play soccer… In fact, Hanbin has his own reasons. This is because I just want to show my older brother, who I haven’t lived with for a long time, that I’m good at everything. Brothers who are not good at expressing their love. We are trying to reach out to each other.

Wonbin did not easily show his emotions due to a wound he suffered in the past. Wonbin, who was gradually improving after receiving speech therapy at the recommendation of a group home social worker, has a bigger dream these days. The importance and affection of family I felt while sharing a room with my younger brother. They say they dream of the day when the whole family will gather together and live together. Wonbin takes extra care of Hanbin who is by his side for that day. I want to do something as an older brother to Hanbin, who is about to enter middle school, and I work part-time because I want to help my grandmother. I started contacting my father, whom I once resented, and visited my paternal grandmother, who was suffering from throat cancer and various chronic diseases, every weekend. The best effort that Wonbin, a first-year high school student, can make. Wonbin was just afraid of becoming an adult. But now there is an expectation that what can be done will increase. Until then, Wonbin plans to keep his body and mind healthy at the group home. Next to Wonbin is his younger brother Hanbin, who is said to be ‘the coolest older brother.’
