Part 2 of ‘World Theme Travel – Wild Mongolia’, ‘Darhad, the Land of Severe Cold’, will be broadcast on EBS1 TV at 8:40 pm today (17th).

We continue our journey at Khovsgol Lake, known as ‘Mongolia’s Blue Jewel’. A scenery so dazzling that it makes you stop in your tracks. Let’s take a moment to enjoy the scenery and go to the middle of the lake. A lake so frozen that it doesn’t break even when a car passes by. Khovsgol Lake is a lake with well-preserved nature and is famous among Mongolians. We shout “Happy New Year” loudly with tourists who come here to welcome the New Year.

Darkhad is the northernmost part of the Mongolian continent and borders Russia. It is truly a cold land. A wide snowy field that seems to have no end. As I was passing through a deserted forest, I happened to meet Mr. Paterzir, a nomad! He says he’s preparing firewood to use throughout the winter… Even though I’m not good at it, I help him cut down the tree together.

He and his wife live in nature with only the bare minimum. You will be treated to a cup of Sutei Tsai tea to warm your frozen body in the bitter cold. Sute tea, a Mongolian milk tea made by boiling tea leaves and livestock milk in boiling water. The boring taste is attractive. Just when I was hungry, a tray full of Mongolian-style braised beef was served! Mongolian people believe that good things will happen if you welcome guests.

Renchinlkhumbe arrived after a long journey. It is a village famous in Mongolia for its extreme cold of -50 degrees Celsius. Announcer Kim Hwang-joong said that it would be sad to be the second child because he doesn’t get cold, but the cold here is hard to bear. To check the temperature directly, visit the Renchingrumbe Meteorological Observatory.

The source of drinking water for residents in winter is the ice of the lake near Renchinglumbe! The ice seller we met at the lake is indispensable to the village. I try delivering ice to various parts of town with him. When I take a bite of ice that sparkles more than jewels, I feel energized.

A family arrived with a cart full of ice. A judo dreamer who will take responsibility for the future of Mongolia lives here. Plenty of medals and flawless judo skills! They promise to meet as sportscasters and athletes in the distant future.

As I looked around the village, the sky was suddenly filled with sunset light. Looking at the tranquil Renchinglumbe, I forget for a moment my busy daily life and the bitter cold.
