Στους 95 ανήλθε ο αριθμός των νεκρών από τον ισχυρό σεισμό που έπληξε νωρίς το πρωί την νοτιοδυτική Κίνα, την περιφέρεια του Θιβέτ, στο κινεζικό τμήμα των Ιμαλαΐων. Η δόνηση έγινε αισθητή ως τις γειτονικές χώρες Νεπάλ, Μπουτάν και Ινδία.
Ο σεισμός καταγράφηκε στις 09:05 (τοπική ώρα· 03:05 ώρα Ελλάδας), σύμφωνα με τα στοιχεία της CENC, δημόσιας σεισμολογικής υπηρεσίας της Κίνας, η οποία εκτίμησε πως ήταν μεγέθους 6,8 βαθμών.
