Madurai: Motorists are getting into an accident as many wires around the sewer cover embedded in the streets of Madurai Corporation have shifted and stretched out in the middle of the road.
Readymade concrete tanks have been installed and pipe connections have been provided for underground sewers in various streets of Madurai. The tanks are fitted with steel bar wire around a circular concrete lid that is closed at the top. Many of the streets are covered with mud as the road is not paved after the completion of works.
As the vehicles climb on and off the lids, the surrounding iron wire shifts and stretches into the middle lane. The wire sees the feet of travelers unnoticed at night. The car damages the underside of the two-wheelers. Thus the 7th Ward Tirupalai Main Road extends from the Velnagar Descent to the Balaji Nagar Returning Road with the wire extending into the underpass cover.
Locals said that the sewer cover on the Velnagar-Balaji Nagar road was damaged several months ago. They built the road without fixing it. So the wire is stretched on the road. When young people fly in two-wheelers, we warn them, ‘Brother, go see … Rotula wire’. Corporation officials said they were not looking into the matter.
