Gazprom may completely refuse from further gas supplies to Moldova, if Chisinau does not pay off the debt and does not agree on the terms of a new contract. This was announced on Saturday, October 23, by the official representative of the Russian energy company Sergei Kupriyanov, saying that Moldova’s debt for the supplied gas is $ 433 million, and taking into account the delay in payments, the total amount of debt increases to 709 million.

“At the same time, the representatives of Moldova, for some reason, do not want to recognize the accumulated amount of debt. The representatives of Moldova also do not like the price of gas, although the pricing here is clear and transparent,” said Kupriyanov.

At the same time, Kupriyanov said that Gazprom is ready to extend the contract for the supply of gas to Moldova with full repayment of the debt. “Despite the accumulated debts, the Moldovan side is asking to extend the contract for the supply of gas for October and November this year. Gazprom, too, has met halfway here, signed a contract for October and is ready to extend the contract for November if the Moldovan side pays for the supplies in full. for September and October of the current year, “he says.

Gazprom assures that there is no politics in this situation

As the press secretary emphasized, there is no policy in the situation with gas supplies to Moldova, Gazprom simply cannot operate at a loss.

The day before, the two-day Russian-Moldovan talks held by the Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation Dmitry Kozak had ended in vain. According to media reports, Russia offered Moldova a 25 percent discount, but the Moldovan side insisted on 50 percent, citing lack of funds.

On the same day, the Moldovan parliament voted for the introduction of a state of emergency in the country due to the gas shortage. It is valid from October 22 to November 20.

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development of Moldova Andrei Spinu said on Saturday that Gazprom’s proposals made during the talks are unfavorable for his country. “The Republic of Moldova cannot agree to pay a higher price for gas than all other states in the region,” the politician wrote on social media.

As for the supply of additional volumes of gas in October – 5 million cubic meters per day – the Russian side promised to implement them immediately, Andrei Spynu said.
