The Levitating House of a Man Who Loved Architecture

There is a pure white cafe on a hill in an ordinary village in Boeun-si, Chungcheongbuk-do…? A house where people come, mistaking it for a cafe or a gallery! In this extremely white house, there live Song Jeong-su, a country man who lives and dies by design, and Go Seon-gyeong, a city woman who loves pretty houses and the color white.

The couple decided to move to a nearby city for their children’s education. However, the husband brainwashed his wife into thinking that they would return to their hometown of Boeun when they got older and rebuild their house. The wife, who liked the city, had a slightly different opinion, but with her husband’s continued persuasion, they found a place where they could enjoy both the city’s infrastructure and the countryside with nature at the foot of the mountain, and began building the house that became the couple’s dream.

The good thing about the couple’s similar tastes is that no one objected when it came to designing the house. They say that they visited houses and housing complexes built by famous architects to build their house and saw over 300 houses. The husband, who is passionate about architecture, said that he fulfilled his small wish by sending his children to departments related to architecture and interior design.

A couple who valued beauty over convenience, only beauty. The owner of the building, who did not like the thick but pretty framed outlets, set the outlets low so they would not be noticeable and created a clean living room with minus molding. He also said that he was satisfied because it was pretty, although he could not solve the problems that arose after installing the built-in windows.

The most important feature of this house is the levitation. They said that they raised the entire house 50cm above the floor to maximize the design aspect of the house. They said that since this is a construction project that is not often seen in Korea, there were difficulties with the construction company changing in the middle… “As long as the design is pretty, that’s all that matters!” We explore the levitating house of a man who loves beautiful architecture.

A 100-year-old house of a woman who loved design

In Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do, in a hillside with many green trees, there is a house with bricks that sparkle in the sunlight. In the house that sparkles white and pink in the sunlight, Kim Min-kyung, an art graduate who believes that architectural design is her calling, and Kang Dong-min, an engineering graduate who helps her, live. The windows that seem to be numerous at first glance catch the eye, and this house has a whopping 40 windows. Kim Min-kyung, who made the windows, says that she had a plan for it all.

Min-kyung, who loved design, was always familiar with graph paper and pencils when she was young because her father was in the interior design business. After entering art school, she joined a construction company and worked in model house marketing planning, continuing her love for design by consistently working on interior design and design. Then one day, she saw a village she visited on business and fell in love with at first sight.

He said that he signed a contract for a single-family home the day after he fell in love with her. And while living in the house for about 10 years, he remodeled everything he could except for the foundation work. The reason he started remodeling was because it was ‘too cold.’ He changed everything one by one, and when the last construction was finished, his wife decided to build a house.

It is said that there are two ways for a couple to build a house. The first is to give up, and the second is to get a divorce. The couple said that they even considered getting a divorce and worked hard to prevent the second way. The wife, who loved the design so much that she went to bed at 10 p.m. and woke up at 2 a.m. to modify the design. The husband, who harassed and scolded his wife, but eventually helped her, was a perfect match.

The couple overcame all the shortcomings they felt while living in a single-family home for the past 10 years and built a house that will last 100 years. In particular, they made a waterway for the stairs leading up to the house to keep their shoes dry, chose exterior materials that cannot be found in Korea, and the most notable thing about this house is the light and wind paths. They say they stood there watching the house site while construction was underway and calculated the optimal wind and light paths. They also made the house warmer and cooler by building a double roof to escape the cold of their previous house.

Min-kyung said that she dreamed again on the graph paper that had been with her all her life, and that her husband eventually acknowledged that she had built a well-built house. It is the perfect location to receive the wind that the designer did not make an inch of error. We explore Min-kyung’s dream house, which she said she did not want to lose to anyone.
