It is the first private arboretum in Korea, which was lovingly built by the late founder Min Byeong-gal, who was called the ‘Blue-Eyed Korean.’ The arboretum, which was certified as the ‘World’s Most Beautiful Arboretum’ by the International Dendrology Society in 2000, has about 16,800 species of plants.
These days, you can enjoy the gorgeous blooming hydrangeas and lotus flowers. People can’t help but be amazed as they walk through the arboretum where the sea and forest come together.

Taean Sea Reclaimed, Oil Spill Overcoming Memorial Hall

The Oil Spill Overcoming Memorial Hall was opened to commemorate the overcoming of the West Sea oil spill that occurred on December 7, 2007. At that time, the Taean people lost their homes in an instant due to the oil spill. In order to save the damaged sea, more than 1 million volunteers from all over the country rushed to clean up the oil and collect the contaminated sand. Thanks to their hard work and dedication, the sea was able to quickly recover to its pre-accident level.
