Bamboo salt made by enduring 9 baking processes and 25 days of hot fire

A bamboo salt factory located in Hamyang-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do. If you follow the thumping sound, you will see people busily filling finely ground sea salt into bamboo. Since it is important to create a solid salt pillar, the workers bang the bamboo on the floor, making a thumping sound. The amount of salt used in a day is a whopping 8 tons. It is said that after working all day, their whole body will ache. Meanwhile, in another place, the entrance of the bamboo filled with salt is blocked with yellow clay and they are busy baking it in a kiln. They are holding two flamethrowers and lighting pine firewood, and in a few minutes, their whole body is covered in sweat. This process is difficult, but they have to repeat it 8 times before they can do the most important ninth melting process. They carefully check the condition and work in front of the kiln, which reaches a maximum temperature of 1,700℃, to make purple bamboo salt. The next day, where the flames have died down, a beautiful purple bamboo salt is complete. Introducing the people who work hard to create sparkling bamboo salt.

Small in size but packed with nutrients!

Everyone has caught dasulgi at least once in their childhood. However, these days, they have disappeared and are hard to find. There are people who collect and process these precious dasulgi. The dasulgi harvesting work begins when the sun begins to set. Dasulgi are nocturnal and hide under rocks during the day, so the real work begins after the sun sets. They go to a depth of 2~3m by boat, lower the net, and pull it out, but this work is not easy. There are many rocks that fall from cliffs, so the net can easily tear. There is a lot to do after catching them. Dasulgi that are less than 1.5cm in size must be individually selected and released. The dasulgi that are caught with such difficulty are brought to the factory and processed right away. In the past, everything was done by hand, but now they say that they have custom-made washing and sorting machines to eliminate such inconveniences. However, there is one thing that cannot be replaced by machines: peeling the dasulgi! They take them out one by one using a needle they made themselves, but if you sit and work for 3 to 4 hours, they say that there is no place that doesn’t hurt, from your wrists to your eyes and back. We go to see people who are trying to give you a taste of dasulgi, the taste of memories.
