Everyone feels lonely. When life is hard and bleak, you may feel like you are left alone in the world. Some people experience this feeling every day, and there are people who endure a reality that is difficult to handle alone. We meet the stories of two people who live with the pain of loneliness in a world where there is no one to lean on.

Mr. Geunbae is fighting the disease alone with pain all over his body.

In a small room where no morning sunlight enters, Mr. Yu Geun-bae (56 years old) starts his day with a leg massage after waking up. Mr. Yu Geun-bae, who has to use a cane even at home, suffered from measles before entering elementary school and became physically disabled. His left leg is 1 centimeter shorter than his right, making it impossible for him to live without a cane. Around the time he graduated from high school, he was in a traffic accident and underwent brain surgery twice, which left him in a vegetative state for 8 months. However, his suffering did not end there. When he was in his 40s, he was diagnosed with a rare disease called giant cell tumor and underwent surgery. After that, he suffered a fracture in his left leg for an unknown reason, and ended up having to undergo another major surgery to insert 29 pins. Mr. Yu Geun-bae, who is in unbearable pain due to constant illness and accidents, continues his lonely fight, enduring each day with painkillers.

Mr. Geunbae slowly leaves his house with the help of a cane and heads to work. Mr. Geunbae works hard to earn living expenses that are insufficient for his allowance by cleaning for four hours every day at a disabled persons’ association located near his residence. He often falls while working here.

After his parents passed away and he lived in a gosiwon for 8 years, Geun-bae moved into a semi-basement house in April of last year. It is much more spacious and comfortable than when he lived in a gosiwon, but the old semi-basement house is not a very comfortable environment for Geun-bae, who has trouble walking. Geun-bae’s only comfort in the evening is a video of a birthday party he had with his parents. Geun-bae, who lives with pain all over his body and has no one to take care of him, tries to console his loneliness by looking at his parents’ faces in the video today.

The first step towards your dream, even if it is a little slower than others

Lee Jeong-geon (21 years old), a young man with Down syndrome who grew up in a facility for the disabled due to his illness since childhood and currently lives in a facility for the severely disabled, starts his day by making his own bed every morning. Jeong-geon, who always puts a lot of effort into even the simple act of folding the blanket, tries to keep his body and mind clean and tidy, and now that he is an adult, he has a small wish to leave the facility and live on his own.

Jeong-geon, who is looking for a job to become independent, is about to graduate from the job preparation course next year. In the job preparation course, he learns how to harvest and pack lettuce through gardening classes. Based on that activity, he makes his own products and sells them, all of which are part of the job preparation course for independence. Jeong-geon does his best at every moment to learn interview skills that are advantageous for employment and learn how to earn a living. Jeong-geon writes down the parts that are difficult to express in words and submits his resume every day, diligently looking for a job. Jeong-geon is also receiving speech therapy to make up for his shortcomings and is even honing his taekwondo skills through physical training. We look forward to the day when Lee Jeong-geon, an honest and solid young man, can become independent.

Mr. Geun-bae, who lives bravely even in difficult pain. And Mr. Jeong-geon, who takes a shining first step toward his dream, even if it is a little slower than others. Please give them a little interest and a helping hand.
