Mr. Ikseon, who has lost all of his body’s muscles and has to stay lying down
Ikseon (37) suffers from a rare disease called ‘progressive muscular dystrophy’ that causes muscle loss throughout the body. The abnormal symptoms that began when he was five years old weakened not only the muscles in his arms and legs, but also the muscles in his heart and lungs. He says that the memory of falling down frequently due to his weak legs and being teased by his friends every time he did remains a deep scar to this day. Standing at 160cm and weighing 26kg, Ikseon’s skinny body, with clearly visible ribs, can easily fracture even with a small bump, and his heart muscles are also weak, so he cannot even breathe properly without relying on a respirator. Because of this, Ikseon can only lie down in a corner of his room, even on sunny days or rainy days, and he lives a life where he relies on others for everything in his daily life, unable to move on his own.
A mother who gives hope and courage to Ikseon
Despite countless trials and tribulations, Ikseon never gave up. He passed the middle and high school qualification exams in a wheelchair, went on to graduate school, obtained a social worker’s license, and established an association for patients with muscular dystrophy. He also traveled domestically and internationally in a wheelchair. He currently uses a computer with an eye mouse instead of his immobile hands to do his work and even hosts an internet broadcast. Contrary to the doctor’s prediction that he would only live until he was 20, Ikseon is now 37 years old and is constantly challenging himself and creating his own life. His mother, Park Seon-yeong (55), also serves as his son’s arms and legs. Although Ikseon has weak jaw muscles and takes more than an hour to eat, his mother feeds him every time. She also provides physical help, such as moving him from bed to wheelchair whenever he moves, and is a strong presence that always encourages him that he can do anything.

Recently, Seon-yeong’s mother’s back pain has been getting worse. It’s because Ikseon’s electric bed, which she’s used for nearly ten years, broke down. The wires are dangerous because they spark, and the part that lifts her upper body has also broken down and stopped working properly. Because of this, Ikseon has nowhere to support her upper body, so she has to lie down to eat, and her mother has to bend down every time to take care of her, which is very difficult. In addition, the wheels on the wheelchair she’s used for a long time have broken down, so it makes a lot of noise every time she moves, which is a great inconvenience to Ikseon, who lives her daily life in a bed and wheelchair. However, Ikseon is enduring these inconveniences and difficulties, and is trying to tell her story and share courage and hope through internet broadcasts while lying down. Ikseon’s physical muscles may have weakened, but her heart muscles are strong, so please show your interest and love so that she can continue to create miracles.
