In a dimly lit apartment in Gunsan, Kim Dong-hyun (57) diligently packs a lunchbox for his wife, Koh Myung-hee (53), who has level 3 intellectual disability. Despite her limitations, Myung-hee relies on Dong-hyun for even the most basic tasks. Lately, her health has deteriorated rapidly due to diabetes and high blood pressure. With these challenges, Dong-hyun also cares for his 85-year-old mother, Koh Soon-hee, who fractured her pelvis in a fall three months ago and remains hospitalized in a nursing home.
Driven by his unwavering responsibility, Dong-hyun works tirelessly to support his family. He makes a meager income by removing underwear threads at home and cleans the building’s bathroom, despite feeling discomfort due to his prosthetic leg. He has worn a prosthetic leg since losing his right leg in a train accident at the age of 10.
The weight of Dong-hyun’s responsibilities grows heavier with each passing day. He worries about his mother’s recovery and safety when she returns home, knowing that her limited mobility poses a risk. He also grapples with the emotional burden of caring for his intellectually disabled wife, who is unable to assist with her mother’s care.
