There are siblings who spend their summer vacations hotter than anyone else. They are 11-year-old Eun-ji and 8-year-old Min-seong. The elementary school siblings started climbing the mountain behind their house every day when vacation began. They are looking for the wanggodeulppaegi, which is said to be as good for your health as ginseng. The reason they search for the wanggodeulppaegi without rest, even while sweating profusely in the scorching sun, is because their great-aunt was diagnosed with liver cancer last December. Since surgery is not possible, their great-aunt is only receiving treatment to prevent the cancer cells from growing any bigger. For their great-aunt, the siblings dug up mugwort and made tea from corn silk starting in the spring. They were worried about their great-aunt, who was getting weaker day by day. However, as the season passed, they could not find the tender mugwort and began studying herbal medicine. The siblings make wanggodeulppaegi side dish to whet their great-aunt’s appetite and boil the root, which has anticancer effects, to give to their great-aunt. To the siblings, their great-aunt is the most precious person. He is the sole guardian of a sibling who must overcome any illness.

√ Sook-hee, who embraced her siblings with love

Sook-hee (74 years old), the maternal great-aunt of the siblings, who grew up in a poor family, dropped out of middle school, and worked part-time at a restaurant. She could not dream of marriage because she was busy taking care of her only younger brother and her parents. Even after her parents passed away 30 years ago, she briefly took care of her divorced younger brother’s daughter… At the age of 65, something unthinkable happened. Her nephew, who divorced his husband, left her one-month-old newborn. Sook-hee, who was holding her nephew Min-seong, her second cousin, in her arms, took care of Min-seong’s older sister Eun-ji after two years. This was because she found out that Eun-ji’s father, who was raising her, had been reported for child abuse and that Eun-ji was living in a facility. The maternal great-aunt raised her siblings by working at restaurants, farms, and whatever else she could, but she was always heartbroken because she could not raise them well. Her heart aches when she sees the children wishing for their maternal great-aunt to recover from her illness.

Eun-ji and Min-seong climb the mountain to dig up herbs and boil medicine while enduring the hot stove fire even in the unbearable heat for children. The reason the siblings put in this much effort is because they are not adults who can earn money. Min-seong says that if he were an adult, he would take her to the hospital and buy her healthy food without worrying about money. He could become a doctor and cure her illnesses, but he is a child now and there is not much he can do for his great-aunt. A basket costs 20,000 won. It is said that it is incredibly frustrating not to be an adult when you cannot buy your great-aunt even the fish she likes… But they never give up. The siblings get corn silk from the corn store owner who they have become familiar with as they pass by and head energetically to their grandmother. They want to show her a love deeper and greater than the ocean, just like their great-aunt did.
