An ordinary 40-year-old from South Korea takes off with a camera. Strolling around with a camera, Pakistan

This time, it’s my Nth car trip to Pakistan. Even though I’ve traveled there more than 10 times, it’s still new! Sometimes I capture the grandeur of nature, sometimes the innocence of people, and let’s walk together in Pakistan!

Scenery you want to steal with your camera Peshawar, Pandhar Valley
Kalash Valley, a unique cultural encounter at the foot of the Hindu Kush
The Secret of Longevity Village, In Search of Emerald Water, Chitral, Hunza
Meet the angels of Suronggo, a remote village embraced by the snowy mountains, Skarud

The first destination of the slow journey with the camera is Peshawar, a city that was a hub on the old Silk Road. On the way to the destination, I was curious about the colorful trucks I encountered in Taxila. The identity of the trucks is Truck Art, a type of art that can only be seen in Pakistan! The colorful clothes with pictures of horses, tigers, and flowers, and the bells and ornaments with colorful patterns are gorgeous. Truck art has trends, and the decorations are changed once a year, and the cost is enormous! Why are Pakistanis so serious about truck art?

Peshawar, the capital of the ancient Gandhara Kingdom. While strolling through the market alleys, we find an old theater. The inside of the theater, as if drawn in, resembles the movie we loved, ‘Cinema Paradiso’. In the 200-year-old movie theater building, a 70-year-old projector is showing a movie from 30 years ago. The romanticism of the Pakistani people who say that nothing is as good as ‘old movies’ even when a new movie comes out, and the movie-like story of the theater are captured in photos.

On the way to the Mahabat Khan Mosque, a famous landmark in Peshawar. Head to the alley of Andarshar Bazaar, a market in the old city of Peshawar. The entrance to the mosque is a simple one connected to the market. Life and religion become one in this space of prayer that is one with the foundation of life.

In the evening of Peshawar, a delicious smell wafts through the market alleys. The smell is Peshawar lamb dish, said to be the best in the world! Bewitched by the smell, you taste Shinwari Karahi, a lamb dish. Fill your stomach with lamb soup and charcoal-grilled lamb, and experience the traditional Pakistani dining culture.

In Phander Valley, Alex meets young men fishing for trout in a river that flows from melted glaciers and snow. After a long wait, the two Pakistani young men successfully catch a trout and readily invite Alex to a trout barbecue party. Their handsome faces look similar, but they turn out to be cousins. Pakistani family culture is full of warm family love and deep bonds. Alcohol is prohibited in an Islamic society, but excitement is overflowing. They learn Pakistani camping dance(?) from the two trout cousins and form a bond as ‘cousins’.
