‘World Theme Travel – Camera Mego Wandering, Pakistan’ Part 3 ‘The Secret of Hunza Longevity Village’ will be broadcast on EBS1 TV today (17th) at 8:40 PM. Alex Kim (photographer) will join us.

An ordinary 40-year-old from South Korea sets off with a camera. Strolling around with a camera, Pakistan!

This time, it’s my Nth car trip to Pakistan. Even though I’ve traveled there more than 10 times, it’s still new! Sometimes I capture the grandeur of nature, sometimes the innocence of people, and let’s walk together in Pakistan!

The Secret of Longevity Village, In Search of Emerald Water, Chitral, Hunza

Chitral, a mountain city nestled between the Hindu Kush and Pamir Mountains, offers a magnificent panoramic view of rugged, steep snow-capped mountains.

In search of Chitral’s famous landmark, we went to the Kunar River that flows through the middle of the city. In order to cross the river where glacial water flows like ice, the residents themselves built a cable car. It’s 100% manual! Veteran drivers take turns in two shifts to transport the residents. It only takes a minute to cross the 450m wide river. We take the cable car, the best means of transportation in Chitral, to cross the river and head to the town’s market.

At the market, we find the traditional hat of Chitral men, the ‘Pakol’. After trying on the hat made of Chitral wool, we become curious and go in search of the traditional wool weaver. The craftsman has been weaving cloth with Chitral wool for 50 years. His skills are truly ‘master’ level. He has woven over 1,000m of cloth so far! We look into the pride of the craftsman who weaves cloth blindfolded and the passion of his son who is continuing the family business.

While wandering around the village, a shout comes from somewhere. Following the sound, we arrive at a polo field. It is a practice match for the polo festival held in July, but the excitement is definitely the best. In Pakistan, polo is considered the ‘game of kings’ and is a very popular national sport. The ‘Shandur Polo Festival’ is held every July at the Shandur Pass in Chitral, where polo matches have been held since 2,000 years ago. It is a representative festival of Chitral held at the world’s highest polo field at 3,600m above sea level. We cheer on the passion of the Chitral polo team as they engage in a close match to win this festival.

In the meantime, we recharged our energy and went on a trek to see Tirich Mir, the highest peak of the Hindu Kush, at an altitude of approximately 7,700m. We came face to face with the Hindu Kush, a great mountain range that exudes the majesty of nature that cannot be approached. A sense of wonder wells up in front of the heart-pounding scenery. The closer we get to Tirich Mir, the more colorful the scenery becomes. It is a rocky mountain, then a dense forest… We stop by a local’s house with a beautiful snow-capped mountain view like a picture frame, and take a break at a ‘scenic restaurant’.

Discover the secrets of Hunza, the world-famous village of longevity! Hear the truth about Hunza Water from the longevity villagers in the canal where Hunza Water, the secret to longevity, flows! The residents are very proud of Hunza Water, which even their grandfathers, fathers, and grandsons drink. What does the emerald Hunza Water, which is full of minerals from natural glacial water, taste like?

Another secret to health and longevity is the fruits and nuts grown in Hunza. Walnuts, almonds, apricots, and odis, which have recently become a craze as modern people’s superfoods, have surprisingly been responsible for the health of Hunza residents for 100 years. At the invitation of a cherry farmer who is truly proud of his village, we take a tour of the organic orchard and taste Hunza’s traditional cuisine and culture.
