Bangkok, unfamiliar yet charming

Head to Sukhothai, the capital of the Sukhothai Dynasty, the first unified state in Thailand. The entire city is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Sukhothai Historical Park, which contains the inscription of King Ramkhanghaeng, who is revered as a national hero by the Thai people. Let’s recall the golden age of Sukhothai, when it expanded its territory, created the Thai alphabet, accepted Buddhism, and developed a splendid culture.
Sukhothai, the birthplace of traditional culture, has a very unique traditional food. Khao Perb, a rice noodle dish recommended by a local, made by covering a cloth over boiling water, cooking rice cakes and eggs, and then pouring the broth over them. The taste is light and clean.

Another legacy left by King Ramkhamhaeng is the ceramic culture of Sangkhalok. Let’s make ceramics together at Sangkhalok Art Street, which is characterized by its soft blue color and smiling fish patterns.

A dense forest that can be found just a little outside the city. Head to a sugar plantation made from palm sap. Climb trees that are over 20m tall, collect sap from the flower spikes, and boil it for a long time to obtain sugar. Its subtle taste is attractive.

The next morning, we hurried to Wat Traphang Thong, which means the temple of the golden pond. From early in the morning, Thai people from all over the country were busy preparing for alms. We offered the offerings we had prepared with sincerity to the monks with a devout heart and thought about the Buddhist spirit that supports Thai culture.

Now, we head to the capital city of Bangkok, the beginning and end of our Thailand trip. Our first destination is the 78-story King Power Mahanakhon, the most iconic building in Bangkok. From the highest point in Thailand where a person can stand, we can enjoy a panoramic view of downtown Bangkok.
Fueng Nakhon Road, where old shops are gathered. As you walk through the cozy alleys, you will find a shop that feels like it has been around for a long time. It is the original shop selling Sriracha, a Thai chili sauce, which opened in 1932! We meet the second-generation owner, Mr. Lakud, and hear his story, and taste the original spicy Sriracha sauce.

If you come to Thailand, one of the places you must visit is the floating market. Visit the Khlong Lat Mayom Floating Market, one of the places known only to locals, and fill your stomach with charcoal-grilled bamboo sticky rice, Khao Lam, and plump freshwater fish before taking a boat cruise. Before you know it, darkness has fallen on the city and you head to Bangkok’s night market. End your journey at Chang Chui Market, a complex cultural space filled with unique outdoor sculptures by artists.
