At the end of Africa, Zimbabwe and South Africa
From the landscape where the desert meets the sea to the dizzying view of the Atlantic Ocean beneath the cliffs! South Africa, a country with many aspects of the Atlantic Ocean. The journey begins on the Atlantic coast of Namibia and ends at the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa. The Soutgat Dead Sea Swimhole was discovered with difficulty through a dirt road in the desert that didn’t even show up on the map! The curator, the producer in charge, and even the driver all jump into the water and have a great time. After spending time full of laughter at the Dead Sea, we arrived at Skeleton Coast National Park, a ship graveyard approximately 500km long where stranded ships can be seen everywhere. The Skeleton Coast, whose name gives you the creeps, is so desolate that you can guess why it was nicknamed ‘Death Passage’. What is the reason?
Namibia’s colorful Atlantic coast! The scenery of Pink Lake and Flamingo Lagoon filled with pink flamingos unfolds continuously. We continue our journey by boarding a ship to further experience the biodiversity of the Namibian coast, which is as rich as the diverse landscape. Sure enough, seals, pelicans circling the boat, and dolphins in the sea immediately appear, showing that Namibia is a paradise for wild animals.
Let’s head to Swakopmund, a resort town with a unique atmosphere. How did you choose to fully enjoy Swakopmund, where German-style buildings and the sea of a resort town come together? A skydiving experience! The Namibia scenery seen from 10,000 feet in the air is very diverse and beautiful. Curator Lee Gwang-ju comes back down to earth and visits a pier restaurant in Swakopmund to enjoy the sunset and a hearty seafood meal.
After spending time in Namibia, we head to the Republic of South Africa to conclude our trip. The city where we will end this journey is Cape Town! Enjoy the thrill of driving along Chapman’s Peak Drive, one of the world’s top 10 driving courses that runs alongside breathtaking cliffs and the sea. The place we arrived at after running like that was Boulders Beach, which was full of African penguins. Penguins with a small body of about 35 cm and rock hyrax with fluffy fur make people laugh just with their cute appearance.
Through strong winds, we head towards the Cape of Good Hope, the southernmost tip of the African continent. The journey ends in South Africa with a heart-warming view at Cape Point, where the Cape of Good Hope’s old lighthouse is located.
