Before entering the Knuckles Mountain Range, the journey starts on 18 Bends Road! The viewpoint on 18 Bends Road with the Mahiyanganaya Plain in front and the Knuckles Mountain Range behind. There is Korean ramen at the viewpoint rest area where we stopped to take a short break surrounded by nature? Let’s cook ramen for Sri Lankans who are not familiar with soup dishes. How do the locals think the taste of Korean soup ramen tastes?
Now that we’ve filled our bellies, let’s start hiking in earnest. The destination is the Knuckles Mountain Range, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with an incredible biodiversity! The Knuckles Mountain Range is home to a variety of flora and fauna, including endangered species such as the Sri Lankan leopard. The Knuckles Mountain Range, a vast paradise of flora and fauna with 34 peaks, is revealed for the first time on World Theme Travel! Trek along the Thangapuwa-Alugallena Nature Trail within the mountain range and enjoy the Jurassic-like natural landscape. Now that you’ve worked up a sweat, it’s time to cool down! Jump into the waterfall at Burnside Natural Pool, which you discovered during your hike. After a long hike, take a break at a mountain lodge where you can enjoy Sri Lankan deviled chicken and fried rice.
We head to Galamuduna, a remote village deep in the Knuckles Mountains. Galamuduna means a village on a rock. As its name suggests, we have to cross the peak of the rocky mountain twice. We finally arrive at the village after riding the village’s bus and means of transportation, a tractor, over the rugged mountain pass. The villagers are unfamiliar with outsiders due to their remote location, but they soon open up and spend time with us. We walk around the village and talk to the village farmers and residents praying at the shrine. Thanks to the consideration of the village chief, we eat dhal curry at his house and rest comfortably. And the next day, we return the way we came by tractor and end our journey.
