Chance, a sheriff of a quiet small town, sees Dude being taunted by a drunk and tries to help him, but ends up arresting Joe Burdett after seeing him commit murder. Joe’s older brother, Nathan Burdett, a wealthy rancher, sends his men to blockade the town and pressure Chance to save Joe. Chance is holding Joe in the sheriff’s office until he can hand him over to the federal marshals, and old Stumpy and former deputy Dude are working with Chance. Meanwhile, Chance’s friend Wheeler is killed by Nathan’s hired killer while trying to help Chance. Meanwhile, Chance meets a woman named Feathers by chance at a hotel and falls in love with her, but he is conflicted because he is not sure about it. Colorado, a young man who was once Wheeler’s subordinate, decides to help Chance. One day, Nathan’s subordinates capture Dude. While Chance goes to exchange Dude and Joe, he accidentally finds Wheeler’s dynamite wagon and uses the dynamite to wipe out Nathan’s gang.
