This summer was hotter than ever. It was a time when we desperately needed ‘Korean medicine’ to recover our tired bodies and minds. So we prepared it. A special ‘Korean medicine’ for you.

From the largest herbal medicine market in the country where just walking around will make you healthy, to ‘Gyeongokgo’, called the king’s elixir, and ‘Seokcheong’, called the treasure of the autumn mountains, to a special meal for the most precious person in my life.

Let’s recharge our energy with some heavy ‘one-shot’ and welcome the energetic new season, fall.

This week (September 2nd – September 6th), EBS 1TV’s current affairs and cultural program ‘Oriental Medicine Travelogue’ will air as a 5-part series.

The place where the ‘Bojewon’, an institution that protected and helped the poor and sick people during the Joseon Dynasty, was located, and in the 1960s, a market for buying and selling medicinal herbs was formed, and it was called ‘Seoul Medicinal Herb Market’.

Seoul Herbal Medicine Market, located in Jegi-dong, Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, is the largest herbal medicine market in Korea, where 70% of the herbal medicines traded in Korea are distributed.

A young man named Yannick from the Netherlands visited Seoul Yakryeong Market, where you can experience everything about oriental medicine and traditional Korean medicine, to the point where it is said that if you can’t find it here, you can’t find it in Korea.

When he was 16 years old and had leukemia, he came across ‘Oriental medicine’ by chance. After that, he was fascinated by ‘Oriental medicine’ and came to Korea. This place was on his ‘bucket list’ that he absolutely wanted to visit.

Entering the alley filled with the scent of medicinal herbs from the entrance, the first store that caught his eye was the medicinal herbs store of Mr. Im Gyeong-su, which had over 300 medicinal herbs on display. Mr. Gyeong-su has been selling medicinal herbs since 6 AM every day for 44 years. He is known as a master of medicinal herbs, so he asked him for recommendations for ‘medicinal herbs’ and stopped by the ginseng alley to get a recommendation for ‘ginseng’ to put in his health food.

The herbal medicine market has been passed down from father to son. President Cho Yong-hyun, who has been running the mill that his father ran for 30 years with his friend of the same age for 10 years, is one of them. The most popular item these days is ‘Agarwood pills’. Yannick also gets involved in work that requires advanced technology… .

You can also have a special experience at Seoul Herbal Medicine Market. You can get your constitution diagnosed by a Korean medicine doctor, drink ‘herbal medicine tea’ that suits your body, wear traditional clothing, and soak your feet in water full of the scent of pine needles. Yannick is very excited about this experience for the first time in his life! Where is the best place he chose?

Everything about Korean Oriental Medicine! Let’s go to Seoul Herbal Medicine Market now.
