This summer was hotter than ever. It was a time when we desperately needed ‘Korean medicine’ to recover our tired bodies and minds. So we prepared it. A special ‘Korean medicine’ for you.

From the largest herbal medicine market in the country where just walking around will make you healthy, to ‘Gyeongokgo’, called the king’s elixir, and ‘Seokcheong’, called the treasure of the autumn mountains, to a special meal for the most precious person in my life.

Let’s recharge our energy with some heavy ‘one-shot’ and welcome the energetic new season, fall.

This week (September 2nd – September 6th), EBS 1TV’s current affairs and cultural program ‘Oriental Medicine Travelogue’ will air as a 5-part series.

A dizzying cliff, a ‘shot’ in the gap! A treasure of autumn mountains hidden deep in the mountains, in the crevices of rocks, Seokcheong. It is made in high altitudes, hard to find, and in small quantities, it is said to be the most precious honey.

Mr. Park Myeong-su started digging for sap with the village elders to treat his mother’s asthma. He has now become a sap digger with 50 years of experience, and even at the age of 67, he still climbs steep cliffs and climbs mountains all over the country.

His wife, Jo Young-ja, who started hiking after her husband’s worries, is now a mountaineer with 25 years of experience. There is nothing to be afraid of when a couple is together! They go to find ‘treasure’ in a mountain where no one goes and where there is no path.

If you lose your target to wasps, it is useless to search for the stone worm. They say you have to visit five or six places a day to see the precious stone worm. In the cool shade, take out the bread you brought in your backpack and eat a slice of freshly picked stone worm. It is a luxury that only stone worm hunters can enjoy, and you can’t help but smile.

What is the happiness enjoyed under the dizzying cliff of ‘Hanbang’, a rock crevice that takes responsibility for the couple’s life?

‘I’m not afraid of being alone in the wilderness’ ‘Hanbang’ by a ‘female herbalist’ who climbs even the pathless mountains alone! Eunsu Kim, a herbalist with 20 years of experience, says that the mountains are now more comfortable than her home. She used to be an ordinary housewife and mother of three children, but she fell in love with the mountains because of her husband who passed away 11 years ago.

The husband who used to dig up mushrooms. He must have been worried about his wife being left alone, so he passed on his skills to her before he passed away from illness. Now, the mountain is Eun-su’s playground! She says that her only joy in life is to dig up the treasures hidden deep in the mountains, creating her own path.

The mountain that never sends you away empty-handed. Today, the mountain gave us wild deodeok and even 10-year-old ginseng.

I leave for the mountains where autumn begins to find the ‘one shot’ of my life, that treasure.
