The couple, Lee Gyeong-gu and Lee Chang-sun, live in a round earthen house built at the foot of Hwangjangsan Mountain, 912 meters above sea level, connecting Mungyeong, Gyeongbuk and Goesan, Chungbuk.

17 years ago, while looking for a place to build a house, they fell in love with this mountain and plowed a field of over 300 pyeong to build an earthen house and are currently cultivating a hideout just for the couple.

With mud walls replacing pillars and rafters replacing beams, the open mud house is the perfect place to spend the summer without air conditioning. Today, a regular customer who has been visiting the couple’s house every summer for the past 12 years came to visit.

A couple’s earthen house that needs a lot of work. Choi Jong-soo, who rolled up his sleeves to help her husband, Gyeong-gu, who was out repairing the roof in preparation for the rainy season. The couple prepared a special meal to express their gratitude.

The wife, Chang-sun, who is good at cooking, makes about 20 kinds of side dishes using wild vegetables that the couple grows and picks themselves, such as asuri, king yam, deodeok, and angelica.

After a meal, I spread out a parasol and chairs in the valley in front of my house, soaked my feet in the cool water, and enjoyed some homemade omija tea. It made me wonder if summer vacation was anything special.

A husband who decided to move to a remote mountain village with no family to support his wife who had become ill while living in the city. He built a tree house in the front yard with a nice view for his wife.

A couple who climbed into their own cabin and said that a bowl of cool bibim guksu would make the heat unbearable.

We meet the bittersweet summer of a couple in Hwangjangsan, who are newlyweds at heart, at the twilight of their lives.
