CHENNAI: The number of electricity bill payers has reached one crore through ‘digital’ mode including website and mobile phone app.
The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board employees survey the electricity usage in the houses once in two months. The electricity bill has to be paid at the collection center, government ‘e-service’ center and post offices. Meanwhile, the payment can be made through the ‘digital’ mode of the electricity board website, mobile phone app, central government’s ‘Bharat BillPay’.

Out of a total of 3.25 crore electricity consumers, 2 crore people are in the electricity bill paying category, including 100 units of free electricity every two months.

Out of which, 90 lakh – 91 lakh consumers pay between Rs 4,500 crore – Rs 5,000 crore digitally. In this situation, in the two months of April and May of this year, the number of people who paid their electricity bills digitally has increased by 8.54 percent to 99.25 lakh over the previous two months. .
