Thiruvananthapuram ∙ The Supreme Court verdict upholding the central government’s decision to impose 10% reservation in jobs and education for the backward among the progressives will not create any change in Kerala. Because Kerala had issued a notification on October 23, 2020, introducing 10% advance reservation for employment and education following the decision of the central government. PSC has reserved all job notifications after this date. As their rank lists are yet to be published, we have to wait for the advance reservation to take effect.
Reservation has also been implemented for admission to professional courses including engineering and medical. The government also allotted 10% more seats to avoid shortage in general category and other reserved seats. Plus two marks, which is the basic qualification, has also been relaxed. Higher secondary admission also has financial reservation. PSC finds 10% vacancies for economic reservation out of 50% reserved for general category.
While applying for any post through PSC reservation should be claimed in one time profile. Only such applications will be considered for reservation. If shortlisted candidates should produce the Economically Backward Non-Reserved Category certificate issued by the Village Officer/Tehsildar when called for PSC certificate verification.
Who are the deserving?
Economic reservation is only available to the upper class with an annual income of up to Rs 4 lakh. Should not have other reservations. Family land holdings shall not exceed two and half acres in Gram Panchayat, 75 cents in Municipal Corporation and 50 cents in Corporation. The total area in municipal and corporation limits should not exceed 75 cents. Land within and outside the state will be taken into account. The total house plot area of the family should not exceed 20 cents in municipal limits and 15 cents in corporation limits. If there is a house plot in municipal and corporation limits, both should not exceed 20 cents. Antyodaya Annayojana (AAY) and BPL ration card holders are eligible for reservation.
