10 lakhs in 3 months; Unemployment insurance scheme to go ahead

ABU DHABI: The unemployment insurance scheme, launched in January, has crossed 10 lakh subscribers. The Minister of Human Resources and Indigenization Dr. Dr. Abdulrahman Al Awar said.

Those who are not yet members of the scheme should take insurance as soon as possible, he said. If the salary is less than 16,000 dirhams, 5 dirhams per month and 10 dirhams per month is payable as insurance premium. The premium amount can be paid monthly or once in 3, 6 and 12 months as per the convenience of the employee.

In case of job loss, those who have joined the first scheme will get an amount not exceeding 10,000 dirhams per month and those in the second category will receive an amount not exceeding 20,000 dirhams. The benefit is for a maximum of 3 months at a time. It will be 60% of the basic pay. The application can be submitted through the insurance company’s e-portal (www.iloe.ae) or smart application (ILOE).

Applications can also be made through bank smart phone applications, kiosk machines, business service centers and money exchanges. Must have worked in an organization for at least 12 consecutive months. The benefit is for those dismissed for no reason.

Those who have been fired due to disciplinary action or who have voluntarily resigned will not get the benefit. Investors, domestic workers, employees with temporary employment contracts, those below 18 years of age and those who have taken up a new job after retirement are exempted.
