10 million euros: the compensation to Eitan Byrne and the families of the victims of the cable car disaster in Italy will be transferred soon

The first compensation payments to the families of the 14 victims of the cable car disaster in Italy will be transferred to them in the coming weeks, the Corrire torino reported today (Thursday).

Reale Mutua, which insures Ferrovie del Mottarone – the company that owned the franchise for the plant, will compensate the families whose loved ones perished with approximately 10 million euros. “We worked with the aim of reaching a result as quickly as possible – explained the lawyer Maurizio Carti, who, together with his colleague Giovanni Gazzola, managed the negotiations with the lawyers of the parties. “We always said that our intention was to compensate and this is the first step”, said Carti.

The parties to the agreement are the insurance company and sixty family members of the victims, including the family of Eitan Biran, who lost his parents Amit and Tal, his brother Tom and his maternal grandparents – Yitzhak and Barbara Cohen.

According to the report, Byrne will receive an advance in the amount of one million dollars. The 10 million euros that Reale Mutua made available to the families, minus a small portion set aside in case the group of beneficiaries is expanded, is not enough to cover all the damage caused to the families.

Therefore, in mediation it was decided to prefer the closest family members. “In Eitan’s case,” lawyer Karti stressed, “the psychological damage must still be considered. At least two years must pass from the date of the incident before the coroner can make a serious assessment.”
