/ There are only three days left until the start of the largest continental football tournament, as the eyes of Iraqis are eagerly awaiting Doha, the Qatari capital that will host the Asian Cup finals for national teams, after China apologized for hosting it in early 2023, due to preventive measures against the repercussions of Covid 19.
Agency presents a special list of the Iraqi coaches who led the Iraqi national team at the beginning of each tournament in the Yellow Continent throughout the history of Iraqi participation.
The list is headed by the Iraqi coach Abdul-Ilah Mohammed, who is considered the first coach to lead the Iraqi national team in the Asian Cup in 1972, while the Yugoslav coach Lenko Garic is the second coach to lead the Iraqi national team in the Asian finals in 1976.
Iraq returned to participate in the Asian championships after the lifting of the international sanction following Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait, to participate in the Asian finals again in 1996 under the leadership of coach Yahya Alwan, who was then in charge of training the national team, while Serbian coach Milan Zivadinovic led the Iraqi team in 2000.
In 2004, the Iraqi national team was led by coach Adnan Hamad, who established a generation of the most prominent players in the national team, who won the first Asian title in the history of the Iraqi national team in 2007 under the supervision of Brazilian coach Jorvan Vieira.
In 2011, the German coach Sidka led the national team in the Asian Championship, while the Iraqi coach Radhi Shenaishil led the Iraqi national team in the Asian Championship in 2015.
The Iraqi national team was led by Slovenian coach Katanec in the 2019 Asian Championship, which was Iraq’s last participation in Asia, while the Spanish coach Casas will lead the Lions of Mesopotamia in the 2023 edition (which starts this month).
