Voting took place at the Argentine Embassy in the Brazilian federal capital

The Argentine Embassy in the Brazilian federal capital reported that 100 Argentines voted in Brasília — out of 365 eligible to vote — in the second round of the neighboring country’s presidential election, which took place this Sunday (19).

Attendance surpassed the 94 voters registered in the first round. The embassy already hoped that the total number of eligible people would not be reached, because among those qualified to vote in Brasília are, for example, Argentine residents of Manaus.

The polls closed at 6pm and vote counting has begun. The result is expected to be released at 9pm, according to the interim secretary of the National Electoral Chamber, Sebastián Schimmel.

“As it will certainly be a close election, we will have to wait until 98% of the votes have been counted,” said the secretary on Saturday (18).

Argentine political scientist Paola Zuban explained to Last Second
that data on votes cannot be published in the country until 9 p.m.: “From that time on, the Electoral Court begins to upload data to the Elecciones Argentina 2023 application, which is enabled from 9 p.m.”

For the expert, if Sergio Massa, center-left candidate and Economy Minister, wins the election against Javier Milei, ultraliberalist candidate, there are chances of demonstrations in the streets.

“In our last study, 38% of people said ‘if Massa wins, it’s because of fraud’,” she said. Check out the full interview at this link.
