Verona – There was a mass collision on the Brenner motorway (A22) between Carpi and Verona on Monday. Around 100 vehicles were involved in the collision between the Reggiolo (Reggio Emilia) and Carpi (Modena) exits, in which 25 people were injured, according to the emergency services. Three people’s lives are in danger.

An accident between trucks shortly after 8 a.m. may have triggered the collision, and the thick fog was believed to be partly responsible. Some people who were trapped in their vehicles were freed by firefighters. Traffic was stopped and toll booths from Mantua to Modena were closed.

Another pile-up occurred on Monday on the A21 in Manerbio in the province of Brescia. Two people died and several others were injured, emergency services said. Several vehicles were involved, including two loaded car transporters. The victims were trapped in the vehicles. The rescue work was also difficult because of the fog. (WHAT)
