Thiruvadanai: In Ramanathapuram district, due to the failure of the North-East Monsoon, paddy cultivation was affected and fertilizer was not sold in private shops only for Rs. 100 crore worth of fertilizer has stagnated.

Paddy cultivation started in 1 lakh 28 thousand hectares in this district. Farmers use DAP and complex fertilizer for crops. Urea fertilizer for foliar nutrient and potash fertilizer for manic requirement are applied in large amount to make the crops flourish.

Hundreds of tonnes of manure were kept in private fertilizer shops for sale depending on the northeast monsoon. Fertilizer worth Rs. 100 crore has stagnated due to the drought caused by the monsoon rains and the paddy crops have dried up.

Ramanathapuram District Secretary of Fertilizer Dealers Association Khalil said that there are 122 fertilizer dealers in the district. Urea and complex fertilizers have stagnated to a large extent. We purchased several hundred tons of fertilizers in the hope that the fertilizer will be sold like last year.

But the sales are low. Due to this, fertilizer worth 80 to 100 crore rupees has stagnated. This fertilizer is not allowed to be sold outside the districts.

So it can be kept in stock and sold only in the coming year. Due to this, traders may suffer losses, he said.
