Makkah police chief Maj. Gen. Salih al-Jabri said 10,000 unidentified people had been arrested in a slum in Jeddah.

Al-Jabri urged all those who break the rules of residence and employment to get their documents corrected and stay in the country as soon as possible. He added that the country is ready to protect and sacrifice the rights of all and seize these opportunities.

The crime rate in the governorate has dropped by 12% since slum clearance began. Al-Jabri said he hoped the figure would rise to 20% with the complete removal of slums.

Police have warned criminals who plan to relocate their bases after the slums are cleared. Police said all those evicted from the evicted slums were under their full control.
