The temple is a World Heritage Site and is maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India. Since Rajaraja Cholan was born on the Sataya Nakshatra in the month of Aippasi, every year the Sataya festival is celebrated on the day of the Sataya Nakshatra in the month of Aippasi. This year 1037th Sadaya Festival is celebrated for 2 days.

Special Puja
History tells us that the capital of the Cholas was Kumbakonam. Inscription researchers suggest that there is a tomb of Rajarajacholan in Udayalur village. There is a Shiva lingam with four feet visible buried in the place where Rajarajachola’s mausoleum is said to be. At this place, every year during the Sadaya festival of Rajarajacholan, the villagers of Vodialur perform pujas and celebrate the festival. In this case, on the occasion of the Sadaya festival, special poojas were held at the mausoleum of Rajarajacholan in Udayalur this morning. Nandigodi and Pulikodi flag hoisting ceremony was held by Pichavaram Zameen family who are descendants of Rajarajacholar. This was followed by yaga pujas, homams and abhishekam. Then 108 sangabhishekam, maha akaraman and maha deeparathan were performed.
