Police in Bangladesh reported that riots broke out in various parts of the country, when demonstrators set fire to government buildings and public and private property, a day after a bloody confrontation between students and police.

The police statement said protesters burned and vandalized the state broadcaster, the National Disaster Management Agency, police structures and other government buildings.

He added: “So far we have shown maximum restraint, and if destructive activities continue, they will be forced to make the most of the law.”

Thirty-nine people were killed this week in a clash caused by student protests about civil service recruitment rules, and 32 people were killed yesterday, Thursday.

The private independent television station said 702 people were injured during the clashes, including 104 police officers and 30 journalists, noting that at least 26 of the country’s 64 regions saw clashes.
