Bangladesh Biman’s 11 international routes are profitable, four more routes are turning profitable. And the remaining six routes are operationally unprofitable. This information was given in a report given by Biman at the meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism at Jatiya Sangsad Bhawan on Thursday (July 4).

According to information provided by Biman, the profitable routes are — Dhaka to London, Toronto, Dubai, Jeddah, Madinah, Riyadh, Dammam, Bangkok, Kathmandu, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. According to Biman, the four routes are becoming profitable routes by reducing the load penalty by adjusting the weight of access baggage with the fare. They are – Abu Dhabi, Muscat, Doha and Sharjah. And unprofitable routes are – Manchester, Kuwait, Delhi, Kolkata, Guangzhou and Narira.

Biman also said that various steps have been taken to make Biman profitable. Various measures have been highlighted, emphasizing on on-time performance, increase in revenue per passenger and cost reduction. Maximum utilization of the new aircraft procured from Boeing Company is ensured. Passenger service means visible improvements have been made. Apart from this, efforts to increase the capacity of passenger transport are ongoing. The process of avoiding load penalty is underway by adjusting the weight of access baggage with the fare. Steps have been taken to make Doha, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Muscat routes profitable.

According to the report, the network expansion activities of Biman Bangladesh Airlines are continuing. New international destinations include Male, Kunming, Sydney, Jakarta, Seoul, Wuhan, and Bahrain, and operations resume to New York. Chittagong-Jesore, Chittagong-Sylhet and Dhaka-Jesore-Cox’s Bazar and Dhaka-Barisal-Cox’s Bazar are significant destinations in the plan to operate new flights on domestic routes.
