Jeddah: Adam Mohammed’s dream of performing Hajj on foot from Britain to the holy land of Saudi Arabia has come true. Adam Mohammed, a 52-year-old Iraqi-Kurdish man, set off from Wolverhampton, UK, on ​​August 1 last year on foot. The lone journey was called ‘A Peace Journey from Britain to Mecca’. He arrived in Mecca yesterday after a journey through 11 countries. The trip was previously reported by Gulf Media.

It took 10 months and 26 days to travel from the UK to Mecca, traveling through the Netherlands, Germany, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Syria and Jordan. He walked an average of 17.8 km daily and covered a distance of about 6,500 km to reach Mecca. The wagon also weighed up to 250 kilograms. Facilities for cooking and sleeping were provided in the car itself.

Adam Mohammed, an electrical engineer, set up an audio system that included recitation of the Qur’an and dictations. Arriving at the Aisha Mosque in Makkah Tanim, he was received by many locals and foreigners.

He had earlier stated that the journey was not for fame or mere religious reasons but to spread the message that everyone in the world is equal and no one is better than the other. He said he had received full support and encouragement during the trip and that there were no other difficulties in the journey other than the detention of suspicious police officers in some places and the hardships caused by the severe weather in some areas.

Adam Mohammed emigrated to Britain in the late 1990s after serving in the Iraqi army and being taken prisoner of war.
