Bangladesh Bank Officers Welfare Council has made 11 point demands to the interim government. They are said to have submitted a memorandum to the finance adviser with the demand to strengthen the banking sector, curb money laundering and restore good governance in the country’s financial sector.

Bangladesh Bank Officers Welfare Council leaders said these things in a press conference on Thursday (August 15). Acting President of the Council Tanveer Ahmed and General Secretary AKM Masum Billah and other leaders were present in the press conference.

In the press conference, the Bangladesh Bank Officers Welfare Council demanded the immediate implementation of proposals for the autonomy of the central bank, further strengthening of Bangladesh Bank as a central bank, prevention of money laundering and the restoration of good governance in the country’s financial sector.

11 point-
1. Bangladesh Bank Order, 1972 necessary amendments and modifications to ensure the autonomy of Bangladesh Bank i.e. administrative, operational and financial expenditure independence.
2. Abolition of the Financial Institutions Department of the Ministry of Finance to prevent conflict of interest and dual governance in the banking sector.
3. Structural reform of Bangladesh Bank Board of Directors.
4. Related laws, regulations and other reforms aimed at bringing back good governance in the banking and financial sector.
5. Inclusion of the post of Governor of Bangladesh Bank as a constitutional post, giving the status of full minister, appointment of Governor from famous economist or central bank official in future.
6. Conversion of the posts of Deputy Governor and Head of BFIU to regular posts of Bangladesh Bank and giving the rank of Senior Secretary.
7. Elimination of political interference and influence in Bangladesh Bank’s important decision-making process (interest rate, exchange rate, licensing of banks or financial institutions, etc.).
8. Elevation of Bangladesh Bank Executive Director to Grade-1, Director to Grade-2 and Additional Director to Grade-3 and inclusion of Central Bank officials in Warrant of President.
9. According to the recommendations of the Eighth Pay Commission, introduction of separate salary structure for the officers and employees of Bangladesh Bank like other central banks of the world.
10. Reinstatement of the benefits of Bangladesh Bank officers and employees which have been canceled or reduced in previous years.
11. In order to increase the flow of inward remittances and foreign investment, the appointment of Central Bank officials by creating banking attaché posts in Bangladesh missions or embassies abroad.
