111 UN workers killed in Gaza Strip, reports Guterres

ONU, 29 november. /TASS/. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said 111 employees of the world body had died since the escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the Gaza Strip began.

“It is with pain and sadness that I announce that 111 members of the United Nations family have been killed in Gaza since the start of hostilities. This is the largest loss of personnel in the history of our organization,” he said during his address to the United Nations Security Council. “Civilians, including UN personnel, must be protected. Civilian installations must be protected, UN installations must not be touched. »

The situation in the Middle East suddenly worsened after the infiltration of fighters from the radical Hamas movement from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory on October 7, accompanied by the murder of residents of border communities and hostage-taking.

Radicals called the attack a response to Israeli authorities’ actions against the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. Israel announces a complete blockade of Gaza and launches retaliatory strikes against this territory and parts of Lebanon and Syria.
