New Delhi: Tirupati Balaji temple located in Andhra Pradesh is in the news these days for its Laddu Prasad. The Chandra Babu Naidu government of the state has accused the temple’s prasad of adulteration during the previous government led by Jagan Mohan Reddy. Tirupati Balaji temple is considered to be the richest temple in the world. Despite the record rise in the price of gold, devotees donated heavily to this temple last year. In the year 2023, this temple received an offering of 1,031 kg of gold, which is worth about Rs 773 crore. Tirupati Trust has a total of 11,329 kg of gold, which is worth about Rs 8,496 crore. Various trusts associated with the temple have deposited Rs 13,287 crore in banks as FDs, which earn an annual interest of Rs 1,600 crore. According to media reports, the Tirupati Trust has a record cash balance of Rs 18,817 crore till April 2024. Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam has made an FD of Rs 1,161 crore this year, which is the highest in the last 12 years.

Budget of more than 5,000 crores
According to the data, only three times in the last 12 years, the amount of FD made by the trust was less than Rs 500 crore. In the years 2021 and 2022, the income of the temple was affected due to the Corona epidemic. The trust has approved a budget of Rs 5,141.74 crore for 2024-25. This is the first time that the budget of the trust has crossed Rs 5,000 crore. The trust is expected to earn Rs 600 crore from the sale of prasadam. Similarly, Rs 338 crore is expected from darshan tickets and Rs 246.39 crore from loans and advances given to employees.
The trust is expected to get Rs 129 crore from other capital receipts, Rs 150 crore from earned service tickets, Rs 151.5 crore from Kalyankatta receipts and Rs 147 crore from Kalyan Mandapam receipts. Apart from this, Rs 85 crore will be received from trust receipts, Rs 60 crore as rent, electric and other receipts. Similarly, Rs 74.5 crore is expected to be received as toll fee collection and Rs 35.25 crore as publication receipts. Similarly, Rs 1,611 crore is expected to be received in the form of offerings.

How much benefit does the government get
According to the budget, the trust will spend Rs 1,733 crore as HR payments, which is Rs 122 crore more than the entire year’s hundi collection. Similarly, the trust will spend Rs 751 crore on the purchase of materials and Rs 750 crore on corpus and other investments. Rs 350 crore has been kept for engineering works and Rs 53 crore for the work of Srinivasa Setu. Rs 60 crore will be spent on engineering work in SVIMS hospital while the hospital will be given a grant of Rs 80 crore. Rs 190 crore will be spent on engineering maintenance work and Rs 80 crore will be used in facility management services.
According to the budget, TTD will give Rs 113.5 crore as grants to various institutions. Rs 108.5 crore will be given to Hindu Dharma Prachar Parishad. Rs 166.63 crore will be spent on loans and advances. Rs 100 crore will be given for pension and EHS fund contribution while Rs 62 crore will be for electrical charges. Rs 10 crore will be spent on publications and advertisements. TTD will give Rs 50 crore as contribution to the state government. This is about one percent of the total budget of the trust.
