JAKARTA: Hindus on the Indonesian island of Bali have traditionally cremated the remains of more than 100 dead people at once.

Bali Island is located in Indonesia in Southeast Asia. Hindus here first bury the bodies of the dead and after some time remove the bones from the grave and cremate them en masse. People believe that it is only after this ritual that the souls of the dead are freed and start a new life.

Mass cremation is also less expensive than individual cremation. Thus, people follow such a procedure. According to this, the skeletons of 117 people who died in Bali’s Patangpai village were exhumed and cremated. The caskets containing the bones were carried in a procession on a 20 feet high chariot.

Relatives placed pictures of the deceased in the chariot and paid their respects. At the end of this well-attended procession, the bones were placed in a huge bamboo toy in the shape of an ox and set on fire. After that, the relatives took the ashes and dissolved them in the sea. In Patangbai village, the cremations of 117 people were cremated, a first.
