The sight of a 12-year-old refugee from Ukraine devastated by the Russian occupation touched the hearts of fans. Fans witnessed a rare moment during a charity match between Ukrainian football club Shakhtar Donetsk and Polish club Lesia Ganes.
As the teams drew 2-2 in the match, Shakhtar brought down a 12-year-old substitute in the final minutes of the game. Before the long whistle could be blown, the boy scored a goal to give Shakhtar the victory.
The team’s winning goal was scored by Dmitry Kedah, a Ukrainian boy who became a refugee during the Russian occupation. Dimitro’s hometown is Mariupol, in eastern Ukraine.

Shakhtar’s teammates allowed him to score the winning goal. He advanced through the small passes and shook the net. The Shakhtar players then lifted him into the air and celebrated the victory.
The competition was organized as part of the club’s global tour of peace. The players came to the field wearing jerseys with the words “Stop fighting”.
Shakhtar beat Greek team Olympiacos 1-0 in the first leg of the tour. It was then that Lacia was defeated as well. Shakhtar also has matches with Fenerbahce and the Hajjuk slip.
