About 6,000 companies, including IIT Delhi, Jamia Millia Islamia University, Indian Medical Association, Nehru Memorial Museum and Library, were among the 6,000 companies whose licenses for receiving foreign donations expired on Saturday, according to the PTI news agency.

Organizations and NGOs operating in India are required to obtain a license under the Foreign Donations Regulation Act to receive donations from abroad.

In this case, about 6,000 companies have not applied for renewal of the license or their applications have been rejected by the Union Home Ministry, officials said.

“The NGOs were given ample time to renew their licenses, but they failed to renew their licenses. Although the period for renewal of licenses was extended, they did not apply,” the ANI news agency reported.
