A displacement operation of 125 families has taken place for a few days in the districts of Tsarahasina and Ikianja in Ambohimangakely. These families had to be rehoused because of an operation to dig up two blocks of stone weighing a total of 2,200 tons in this locality. These rocks strongly threaten to collapse on the houses that are built downstream, hence this securing operation.

The operation is led by the National Office for Risk and Disaster Management (BNGRC), in collaboration with the firefighters and the rural municipality of Ambohimangakely. The relocated families will be taken care of by the State during the works, according to the BNGRC. Their homes will be secured by law enforcement pending their return.

The digging work will be done by hand to avoid too much damage. They will last about three weeks. A period that promises to be long for the population who will have to take their troubles patiently for their own safety.
