After the second part of the scene, it too is OTT. What can the audience expect when Mohanlal-Jeethu Joseph team up for another crime thriller for the platform?
There is no need for an introduction as to how much the audience is excited about the name Jeethu Joseph after the scene. Perhaps, Jeethu Joseph’s films have become more of a kind of film in which the director is valued more than the actors.
With more than two and a half hours with a group of friends, and that and much of the movie focused on one resort, the 12th Man focused on a number of things. In such a situation, the film manages to keep the audience from getting bored or losing the importance of the superstar and half a dozen characters on the same level, without losing the strength of the story.
‘Who is to blame?’ Much of the film is about finding the answer to the question. The film manages to entertain as well as inform, with the exception of the first half, which takes a little longer to establish with its friends.
Investigating the crime that occurs between them is complicated by the fact that the closed environment begins at the very beginning. By then, the background needs to shrink again. Mohanlal, who has been a drunkard in many films, easily enters into the different guises of the main character.
Malayalee audiences who are accustomed to watching courtroom drama can find the storytelling style in ’12th Man’ from a place other than the court. ‘Confident Space’, which is the backdrop for horror and mystery films in world cinema, has been selected for the ’12th Man’ narrative. There is a mystery as to why this genre is so relevant.
Along with the important question of ‘who is the culprit’, it is important to point out the information technology here for the suspicion of who the accomplice is. The story is also a testament to how big a bomb a smartphone can be when you change the lock and leave it somewhere in your hand, pocket and bag.
’12th Man’ is the first thriller and second film directed by Jeethu Joseph with another script. Krishnakumar’s new screenwriter’s admiration for meticulousness is commendable. ’12th Man’ is a work that will mark him in Malayalam cinema.
Story, camera, background music, art direction and editing are also excellent contributions.
