(24 News) Due to the increase in the intensity of cold in Karachi, 13 people died due to frostbite in the last one and a half months.
Chaudhry Shahid Hussain, spokesperson of Chhipa Foundation, said that since December 2024, 43 people have died due to drug abuse in the city of Quaid, including 42 men and 1 woman.
He disclosed that there are more than 13 people among these dead people who died possibly due to cold.
These people were addicted to drugs and had no quilts, mattresses, blankets or beds to protect them from the cold.
These people overdose to avoid the cold and therefore try to sleep on a bridge, footpath or sheltered place.
Because they don’t have warm clothes or beds and despite being intoxicated they get very cold and the excess of intoxication with cold causes death of these people.
Spokesperson Chippa added that during the winter season, abandoned and unidentified bodies are found on the footpaths of the city, which are buried by the organization from its own resources.
He said that this time it is very cold in Karachi and hundreds of homeless people sleep at night on footpaths, open spaces and under bridges, most of whom do not have warm clothes, beds or blankets.
Chaudhry Shahid Hussain appealed to the philanthropists to donate beds, blankets and quilts to protect the homeless people from the cold, so that Chhepa Foundation can protect these people from the cold and more resources are needed for this purpose.
