13,000 complaints received regarding wages; Oman Ministry of Labour

Muscat: The Ministry of Labor said that 24,000 complaints were received in Oman last year related to the labor sector. The Ministry of Labor has received 13,000 complaints related to wages. The Ministry of Labor has stated that its objectives are to protect the rights of workers in private sector organizations in Oman and to implement a wages protection system aimed at ensuring fair wages for workers.

WPS is an electronic payroll transfer system that allows companies to pay wages to workers through banks or authorized financial institutions. This system has been prepared by the Ministry of Labor in collaboration with the Central Bank. In January this year, the authorities had warned against delay in salary of employees of private sector organizations.

As per the law, the employees must be paid by the 8th of every month. If the employer delays in paying the employee their monthly wages, the penalty will be doubled every month. Authority to delay payment for a specified period with the consent of both parties
