The court ordered 135 BNP-Jamaat leaders and activists to be jailed for different terms in five cases of sabotage committed in Turag, Rampura, Mirpur, Hazaribagh and Banshal police stations of the capital. Besides, the court acquitted 100 people as the charges were not proved.

Five separate Metropolitan Magistrate Courts of Dhaka announced the verdict on Thursday (21 December).

93 people were sentenced in the case of Turag police station
The court sentenced 93 BNP leaders and activists to three years imprisonment in two sections in the case of vandalism committed at Turag police station in the capital five years ago. They will have to serve two years in prison as the two sentences run concurrently. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jasim sentenced him to prison. In addition to imprisonment, the court ordered each of them to pay a fine of five thousand rupees. In default of payment of fine, they will have to undergo another month of imprisonment without work.

The convicts are-Mo. Imran, Md. A. Quddus, Md. Mizanur Rahman, Asif Hossain Rana, Md. Amir Hossain, Md. Kamrul Islam, Md. Akhter Hossain and Manik Dutt. Meanwhile, the court acquitted the two accused as the charges were not proved in the case.

6 people sentenced in Hazaribag police case
The court has sentenced six BNP leaders and workers to one and a half years in two sections in the case of sabotage of Hazaribag police station in the capital 13 years ago. As the charges were not proved in the case, the remaining 51 accused in the charge sheet were acquitted. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ahmed Humayun Kabir gave this verdict. The sentenced are-Mo. Abdul Latif, Md. Aziz, Md. Chanaullah, Md. Hasu Mia, Swapan and Abul Khair Liton.

According to the sources of the case, the police filed this case in Hazaribagh police station of the capital on the charge of sabotage in November 2010. After the investigation of the case, a charge sheet was filed in the court against 57 people.

15 people sentenced to imprisonment in the case of Banshal police station
A decade ago, the court sentenced 15 BNP leaders and workers to 6 months’ imprisonment without labor and a fine of Tk 2,000 in a case filed at Banshal police station in old Dhaka. Meanwhile, the remaining 47 accused in the charge sheet of the case were acquitted as the charges were not proved. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka Sultan Sohag Uddin announced the verdict of this case.

According to the source of the case complaint, the police filed the case in November 2013 at Dhaka’s Banshal police station on charges of sabotaging the hartal.
