High school player Yang Min-hyuk (18, Gangwon)‌ was​ honored with the K League 1 (1st Division) Young Player Award, which can only be received ‌once in⁢ a lifetime.This is ‌the frist time a high school student ‌has received this award. Yang Min-hyuk received 11 out‍ of⁣ 12 manager votes,10 out of 12⁢ captain votes,and 115 out of 116 media votes as a result of the voting announced at‌ the 2024 ​K League Awards held⁤ on the 29th. Consequently of the vote,Yang Min-hyuk ​recorded a converted score of 92.16 points, beating Daegu’s Hwang Jae-won (5.00 points) by⁤ a large margin.

Yang‍ Min-hyuk became the⁢ second⁢ player in⁢ history to receive the Young Player Award in his debut season,‌ following⁤ Kim Min-jae (Bayern Munich), who played ‌for Jeonbuk in 2017. The Young ‍Player Award is given to players of Korean nationality who are 23 years⁤ old or younger ⁢and who have been in their third year of debut or younger. Yang Min-hyuk showed⁤ such impressive⁤ performance this season that he was⁣ named one of ⁢the three finalists for the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award‌ along with Ulsan goalkeeper Cho Hyun-woo and Suwon FC midfielder Andersson. Yang Min-hyuk ⁤was ‌also selected as the best 11 ​midfielder.

Yang Min-hyuk ​said, “I feel like I’m living a really different life. “I’m thankful that so much has changed in one year,” he said. Yang Min-hyuk, a ⁤third-year student at Gangneung Jeil High School, a youth team affiliated with Gangwon, signed a semi-professional‍ contract with Gangwon this season and jumped into K-League​ 1. He participated in all 38 games Gangwon played this season,scoring 12 goals and ‍6 assists,ranking tied for 5th place in attack points (18). ⁣He ⁣won the ⁣‘Young player of⁣ the Month Award’ five times, including four consecutive ⁢awards from April to July. In July, he​ became the ⁣youngest ⁢player ever (18 ‌years and 3‍ months) to receive the ‘Player of the Month’ award. In August, he was selected for the first time in the adult national team.

Yang Min-hyuk signed a formal professional⁤ contract with Gangwon in June and signed⁣ with English Premier League‍ (EPL) team Tottenham in July under⁤ the condition of joining after the ⁤end of this season. The terms of the contract ​were not disclosed, ‌but it is known to be the highest level ‌among players who played⁤ in the K-League and advanced to the European stage.
