This concerns nine confirmed cases in Flanders, four confirmed and one probable case in Brussels, and one confirmed case in Wallonia. Not all data has yet been collected for the three most recent reports. The other infections were found in men who have sexual contacts with men. They are between 28 and 43 years old.

However, monkeypox is caused by a virus that does not discriminate between humans and is therefore “not intrinsically associated with any specific group of people,” said Dr Hans Kluge, Europe’s regional director for the World Health Organization (WHO), on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, there were still ten confirmed and two probable cases in Belgium.
